County Water Authority releases Water Purchase Agreement

Last Thursday, the County Water Authority released a draft Water Purchase Agreement (WPA) for the proposed Carlsbad desalination plant. The public now has 60-days to provide comment on the massive document and two public workshops are being held here in San Diego.  Please join us at one of these public workshops.

This will be your chance to learn how the proposed desalination plant will affect rate-payers and the risks the County Water Authority is taking on with this project. You will have a chance to ask questions and show support for Surfrider's concerns about this issue. If you plan on attending this meeting please contact us at water@surfridersd.org to let us know and please wear a Surfrider shirt if you have one.

  • 6:30 pm Tuesday, October 2nd at the Water Authority’s headquarters, 4677 Overland Ave., Kearny Mesa.
  • 6:30 pm Wednesday, October 10th at the City of Carlsbad’s Faraday Center, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad.
This article in the UT contains Surfriders' San Diego's take on the situation. Furthermore, the environmental community recently released a "briefer" document detailing their concerns with the proposed desal plant and 30-year take-or-pay contract, which can be found  here. We hope to see you at one of the upcoming public workshops! These workshops are your chance to understand the significant risks associated with this project, and to have your voice heard.
