The 22nd Annual Paddle for Clean Water took place on September 22nd, 2013 in Ocean Beach. The event featured hundreds of surfers and ocean enthusiasts paddling around the Ocean Beach Pier in an effort to raise awareness about the need for clean water and healthy coastlines.
This year’s paddle was focused on the chapter’s Rise Above Plastics campaign, which aims to reduce the impacts of plastics in the marine environment by raising awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and by advocating for a reduction of single-use plastics and recycling of all plastics.
As part of the festivities, there was a donation-based yoga class, free breakfast for all paddlers, guest speakers, live music from Ottly Mercer and a raffle. The event was followed by an after party at Wonderland Pub. New this year, individuals could also help raise funds to support clean water initiatives in San Diego County by going to stayclassy.org/paddle and making a donation.
