As a member, you will receive our chapter newsletters which provide vital information on important coastal issues affecting your local beach. You will also receive our online publication SOUP and our bi-monthly publication Making Waves, which are focused on international and national-level Surfrider Foundation campaigns and programs. Finally, as an active member you are entitled to discounts and special offers from a growing list of sponsors. Above all, you will be making a positive difference in the future of our oceans, waves and beaches that nourish our lives each and everyday.

The Iron Surfer Membership program is the Surfrider Foundation San Diego County Chapter effort to grow our membership by recognizing and rewarding those who refer new Surfrider members throughout the year. Share Surfrider stoke with others, receive cool incentives and be recognized by Surfrider Foundation San Diego as an Iron Surfer or a higher level depending on the number of members referred during the calendar year. Five Membership Referrals qualifies you as an Iron Surfer and the person with the most membership referrals in will be named the Surfrider San Diego Silver Surfer! Make sure your Name, Membership Number and San Diego Chapter are on ALL the membership applications you give to your friends, family and coworkers! The money raised by the San Diego Chapter will go towards programs in San Diego County such as our water quality testing program the Blue Water Task Force, our education programs Respect the Beach and Kids for Clean Water, our coastal mapping project Beachscape in addition to providing financial support for beach cleanup supplies, printing and distribution of our newsletters and other local needs and issues.
Currently, Surfrider Foundation has a member base of approximately 50,000 supporters throughout the United States. Growing this membership base provides Surfrider Foundation with the opportunity to educate individuals and communities about their role as stewards for our coastal and marine environments. Growing our grassroots structure is critical to our mission, and our annual membership drive is a perfect opportunity to reach new members and educate people about the important work of the Surfrider Foundation.
