Private Beach Cleanups

Surfrider Foundation’s Chapter network conducts 1,000 public beach cleanups annually throughout the West, East, Gulf, Hawaiian, Great Lakes, and Puerto Rican Coasts. Cleanups are led by volunteers who weigh, catalog, and recycle the appropriate materials collected. Surfrider volunteers collect and remove 100,000 pounds of trash and recycled materials annually.

The San Diego County Chapter held over 150 cleanups in 2023, empowering 9,600 volunteers to remove 12,823 pounds of trash from our beaches. Maintaining such a robust program requires the support of numerous individuals, organizations, and businesses within San Diego County. We invite your company to join the effort to keep San Diego County’s coastline clean by sponsoring a public or private beach cleanup.

Our orientation includes introducing the Surfrider Foundation, the importance of coastal preservation efforts, and simple measures we can all take to protect our ocean, waves, and beaches.

Support clean water and healthy beaches.

By holding a private Surfrider beach cleanup, your group:

  • Helps protect our ocean, waves, and beaches through both the action of cleaning up and financial support for our chapter's mission to protect San Diego's 72 miles of coastline
  • Demonstrates a commitment to environmental stewardship through a corporate social responsibility activity
  • Encourages employee engagement in the community and strengthens team building and morale
  • Directly supports educational resources and opportunities for students, NGOs, and community members to learn about the impact of plastic pollution, marine conservation, and sustainable practices
