In 2010, Steve Roeder’s front yard in La Jolla was transformed from turf into a beautiful certified Ocean Friendly Garden by Steve and a group of dedicated Surfrider volunteers.  Since then, his new yard has been featured in various news articles, was the winner of Cali Bamboo’s 2011 Greenscape Challege, and was recently featured as a stop in the California Native Plant Society’s inaugural San Diego Native Garden Tour.  Steve’s OFG  is also  now a runner up in this year’s “California Friendly” Landscape Challenge, an annual local competition sponsored by various water agencies in San Diego County.  Learn more about the “California Friendly” Landscape Challenge, including photos of past winners, at http://www.landscapecontest.com/index.htm

Want to be ready for next year’s competition?  Surfrider’s Ocean Friendly Gardens Program will be offering a Basics Class sometime this summer, hopefully in the Sunset Cliffs area.  Make sure to sign up for Surfrider’s newsletter to stay updated on when and where the class will be held.  You can also like us on Facebook at “Ocean Friendly Gardens – San Diego”.  We also have a Pinterest account where you can see beautiful photos of California native plants and get design inspiration for your very on OFG.
