Jim grew up waterskiing on the Chesapeake bay and boogie boarding in Ocean City, Maryland. After getting pushed into waves in Waikiki at the age of 8, he made it a priority to live where he could surf. Finally moving to San Diego 25 years later, Jim jumped at the chance to join as a Surfrider Core Volunteer. He became active through the Ocean Friendly Restaurants program and advocated for single-use plastic reduction. Jim is also an avid SCUBA diver and is passionate about preventing plastic pollution from harming his fish friends. His background is in materials engineering and currently is a scientist for a technology startup company.
