Roger Kube has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Colorado – Boulder. A longtime Surfrider Foundation volunteer, he served on the Executive Committee from 2012-2014, acting as Chair in 2013-2014. He has been actively involved in the fight against plastic pollution for nearly ten years, helping to raise awareness and drive policy through advocacy efforts. He helped create Surfrider Foundation’s Ocean Friendly Restaurants Program, which is now a national program. He was part of policy teams to help pass polystyrene bans in San Diego, Solana Beach, and Encinitas, and plastic bag bans in the City of San Diego, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Del Mar, and Oceanside. Roger was also instrumental in helping to pass the California state bag ban through his outreach and advocacy efforts in San Diego. He is a former member of the 5 Gyres Institute’s Board of Directors and a current Policy Advisor for the organization. In 2016, Roger was awarded a San Diego Earthworks E.A.R.T.H. Award, recognizing him as one of San Diego County’s environmental leaders and in 2017, he was awarded a Wavemaker Award by the Surfrider Foundation Board of Directors.
