SB270 would prohibit grocery stores and large retailers in California from offering disposable single-use plastic bags to customers, and would impose a 10 cent fee for paper bags and thicker plastic bags. The bill had been held in legislative suspension, but on Thursday, August 14th, it moved out of the Appropriations Committee and onto the floor of the Assembly for a vote. Kudos to Assembly member Shirley Weber, whose "yes" vote in the Appropriations Committee helped to get the bill moving again.
