Join our Rise Above Plastics committee on Tuesday, September 9th for a free screening of Into the Gyre starting at 7pm at the Capetown Pub located at 7580 Miramar Road, San Diego, CA 92126 (map).

Into the Gyre is a 44-minute film documenting a groundbreaking expedition to study the location, extent and effect of plastic pollution in the North Atlantic Ocean. Thirty-four volunteer researchers, scientists and sailors participated in this five- week long adventure to the remote Sargasso Sea, east of Bermuda. Sailing on a 135-foot tall ship, the SSV Corwith Cramer, operated by the Sea Education Association, the film closely follows four of the scientists as they collect, count, and archive the plastic they encounter. Along the way, the film examines the history of plastics, the adverse effects it is causing in the ocean, and possible solutions to this problem. Watch the trailer here.

The Cape Town Pub will be offering food and drink specials for attendees and we will be raffling off some prizes.
