Pass a San Diego County Plastic Reduction Ordinance

Pass a San Diego County Plastic Reduction Ordinance

Surfrider San Diego has begun advocacy to pass a county-level comprehensive plastics reduction ordinance to ban expanded polystyrene foam and limit other disposable plastics.

Having played a role in the passage of over 10 local city plastic ordinances within San Diego County, addressing plastic pollution in the unincorporated communities is a logical next step. The County Board of Supervisors and Staff have several recent ordinances to take inspiration from, including a polystyrene ban in the City of San Diego and an impressive suite of plastic reduction steps taken by Carlsbad that include banning single-use plastic food ware and accessories, and imposing restrictions on plastic bags that go beyond the state bag ban. Cities are taking action; it’s time for the County to follow suit.
