Solana Beach Local Coastal Plan (LCP) hearing Feb 27th

Join us at the Feb 27th Solana Beach City Council meeting, sign up here! The meeting starts at 6 pm and will be held at 635 South Highway 101. It is encouraged that you arrive by 5:30pm to get a seat in the Council Chambers as it will be packed! “Dude where’s my beach” t-shirts will be provided.

This will be a pivotal vote before the new City Council on an issue we have been working on for more than 10 years! Help us stand up for the progress that has been made over the past 10 years, and keep this Local Coastal Plan moving toward completion.
After 60 days of listening and working with all interested parties, we are looking forward to seeing Solana Beach (the last coastal City in San Diego without an LCP) take the next step. Join us to stand up for our oceans, waves and beaches!

I have personally watched the turning of the tides in Solana Beach since I was a third grader at
Solana Beach Elementary when my father moved us here so that he could work at Bill Jacks. My parents rented a house at 533 Pacific on the cliff before buying a house accross the street at 606 west Circle dr.

From looking over old black and white photos of the beach and our cliff/bluff, I can determine that it receeds about 6inches a year. And though daily experience, the sand has come and gone. No more and no less over the last 50+ years. In fact I think the walls have made the erosion worse than before they were there.

My husband, who retired from Chevron as a geophysist (Ph’D), has said any device that is employed will fail.

And although my inheritance of the house just accross from the cliff may someday be gone, so be it. I have the free choice to live here, just as I have friends who have built in Hawaii. Some have lost their home to lava. But we all know ANYTHING can happen, but lets not make the Ocean pay for our stupidity. And give the children of the future a real beach, not a cement disneyland wall.

It’s refreshing to read your words. The reams of reports that have been written about Solana Beach’s coast did not more clearly explain our situation.

Would you take the time to share your thoughts with City Manager David Ott in an email addressed ? The City and Council Members value letters from Solana Beach residents. We are asking the council to approve options 3 or 6 in the Staff Report. These options will adopt the LCP as approved by the CCC on March 7, 2012 and allow for amendments if needed to address any issues requiring change in the future.

Thank you! Hope to meet you at Wednesday’s council meeting.
