2026 Surf-a-thon

Ride the Wave. Protect the Shore.

Sunday, October 11, 2026

8:00am - 12:00pm at La Jolla Shores

Ride Waves. Raise Money. Protect the Ocean.

What is the Paddle for Clean Water?

Join us for the 32nd Annual Paddle for Clean Water, hosted by the Surfrider Foundation San Diego County Chapter on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 9:00 am at Mission Beach Park (just south of Belmont Park).

Originally launched in the 90s as a protest against sewage pollution, the Paddle for Clean Water has grown into an annual event uniting surfers, swimmers, and ocean enthusiasts in a powerful show of solidarity for protecting our coastline and improving ocean water quality.

This year, we're doing things a bit differently. While the event is iconic for paddling around the Ocean Beach Pier, our new location brings a fresh opportunity. Paddlers will be asked to head past the break and line up in the water, creating a striking visual, similar to Hands Across the Sand, but in the water. Together, we’ll make a bold statement for clean water.

The event also invites San Diegans to come together and participate in a variety of activities including morning yoga, a coastal ribbon project, a paddle out, a beach cleanup, and live music—all while celebrating the year’s accomplishments.

Join us October 11 at La Jolla Shores for the first-ever Surfrider San Diego Surf-a-Thon — a community fundraiser to protect the coastline we love.

Help us raise $30,000 for San Diego's ocean, beaches, and clean water.
