Splinters is coming to San Diego

Splinters is the first feature-length documentary film about the evolution of indigenous surfing in the developing nation of Papua New Guinea. In the 1980s an intrepid Australian pilot left behind a surfboard in the seaside village of Vanimo. Twenty years on, surfing is not only a pillar of village life but also a means to prestige. With no access to economic or educational advancement, let alone running water and power, village life can be hermetic. A spot on the Papua New Guinea national surfing team is the way to see the wider world. Splinters chronicles how a surfboard left by a tourist on the island in the 1980s changed the culture.

The San Diego premiere of Splinters will be held on Saturday, February 11th from 6:30-8:30pm at Bird’s Surf Shed (1091 West Morena Blvd). Tickets are $10 and they are available online. To purchase tickets for the premiere follow the link here.
