13th Annual Art Gala Raises Over $25,000 To Protect Our Coastlines

SAN DIEGO -  The Surfrider Foundation San Diego County Chapter’s 13th Annual Art Gala at Paradise Point Resort and Spa raised over $25,000 last Friday, May 10th.

The Art Gala celebrates ocean advocacy while showcasing local artists and raising funds for local Surfrider programs.  Highlights from Friday night’s event, emceed by KPRi’s Madison Keith, included live painting from Nathan Gibbs, Brian Helfand and Juan Tocayo Marante, an interactive art project in which guests were asked to write, draw or paint why they love their oceans, waves and beaches, and a musical sets by Casey Turner and Brett Dennen.

“The addition of music, the change of scenery, and other event updates brought new life to the Surfrider Art Gala,” describes Art Gala Coordinator, Olivia Bui.

With over one hundred pieces of artwork and twenty five non-art auction packages, bidders were tempted by a diverse selection of items.  While enjoying the beauty of the bay, the 450 attendees dined on delicious food provided by Paradise Point Resort and Spa and Jimbo’s…Naturally, and beverages from Barefoot Wine and Stone Brewing Company.  The $25,000 plus raised by the event will directly benefit Surfrider education, outreach and advocacy directed at protecting San Diego County beaches.

San Diego Chapter Chair, Roger Kube, comments on the event’s success, “Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, staff, sponsors, artists, and attendees, we experienced one of the most successful Art Galas in our chapter's history.  The success of this event and the funds we raised will allow us to continue our efforts to protect our oceans, waves and beaches here in San Diego County.”
