FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

19th Annual Surfrider Foundation Paddle For Clean Water set for Ocean Beach San Diego on September 12th

SAN DIEGO, August 2nd 2010 - Beach lovers and ocean enthusiasts unite for clean water! The Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter hosts the 19th Annual Paddle for Clean Water on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010. The event starts with free breakfast at 9 a.m. and features the paddle around the Ocean Beach Pier at 10 a.m.

The paddle around the OB Pier at 10 a.m. features all sorts of paddlecraft – surfboards, bodyboards, kayaks, outrigger canoes, etc. – in a non-competitive paddle out and around the Ocean Beach Pier to raise awareness to pollution problems along San Diego’s coastline. The event will also include breakfast for all paddlers starting at 9 a.m., along with special guest speakers, music, a huge raffle with a new surfboard as the grand prize and a beach cleanup. Over 1,000 beach and ocean lovers are expected to take to the waters off Ocean Beach this year. It’s a free event and promises to be a morning of fun for everyone in the family.

Know Your H2O! Know Your h2o is a program designed to educate people on the link between freshwater management issues and the impact on our oceans, waves, and beaches that will be highlighted at this years event. We advocate for practical and environmentally sound solutions. Through conservation, using climate-appropriate plants, permeable pavement, capturing and reusing "waste" water, and Indirect Potable Reuse (IPR), we can reduce water pollution in the ocean AND improve our drinking water supply.

“Paddling around the Ocean Beach Pier is not mandatory, but expect to have fun either in the water or on the beach. Bring a friend or three and share the stoke during the huge paddle out. Also, people can learn really interesting and useful information, like how to save money through home water conservation,” said Manase Mansur, chair of Surfrider Foundation’s San Diego Chapter.

Schedule of events:
9am: Light breakfast is served
10am: Paddle around the Ocean Beach Pier
11am: Group photo, guest speakers and raffle
9am – Noon: Beach Cleanup
