A Victory Against Cigarette Butt Litter in Ocean Beach!

On Sunday, October 26th, our Hold On To Your Butt (HOTYB) committee, its volunteers, and long-time supporters and partners stormed the streets of Ocean Beach in efforts towards the Ashcan Revitalization Project. The Project included tasks of refurbishing 50 existing weathered ashcans with new stickers, installing 30 brand-new ashcans along the busy streets of Voltaire, Newport Ave, and adjoining streets, cleaning up cigarette butt litter in the area, and happily interacting with the community to raise awareness along the way. With this installation, the HOTYB committee now has 230 ashcans installed throughout San Diego County.

The event was kicked-off with a press conference at Te Mana Café, at which the Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter recognized many of it’s supporters such as San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, Supervisor Ron Roberts, Ocean Beach Town Council, and Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association.

It was an incredible success for the HOTYB committee, the community of Ocean Beach, and everyone involved! None of this would be possible without the support of our volunteers and supporters. A huge thanks to all that contributed in making this project a success; Te Mana Café, Luv Surf, Natchurale, Luxe Studio, Unleashed – PB, Glasstic Bottle, Ruffware, Waxlene, Mutt Mitt, Mutts Against Butts, Bird Rock Yoga, Bird’s Surf Shed, San Diego Sailing Tours, O-Bistro Café, Dog Beach Wash, and Roy’s Restaurant La Jolla. Thank you to everyone who contributed in helping to protect our oceans, waves and beaches!
