Clean Border Water Now Condolences

Written by: Gabriela Torres, CBWN Policy Coordinator

This week, the Clean Border Water Now team learned of the passing of team volunteer and true Clean Water Warrior, Jennie Jerome. Jennie approached us in March of 2018 with a tremendous will to use her talents to address the border pollution issue.

She provided legal research and memos during a period of intense policy meetings. Her excellent work is what helped the San Diego chapter understand that litigation was an option after studying the history of flows and relevant case law.

A resident of Coronado, she was incredibly interesting. She had an LLM in Environmental Law and was a long time offshore sailor. Her environmental expertise in Submerged Lands Act immersion and offshore energy really complemented our efforts.

She was also incredibly funny and loved to insert jokes wherever she could. Back in 2018, when we were still known as the No Border Sewage campaign, I invited her to the No Border Sewage meeting.

She responded: “I did not know there was any such thing as a no BS meeting. Sorry, couldn't resist.”

It was a pleasure to have crossed paths with such a wonderful woman. Surfrider San Diego will miss her but may she rest knowing that we will continue the work that she helped start. #cleanborderwaternow
