In Support of Imperial Beach's Comprehensive Single-Use Plastic Ordinance to Protect Marine Life

This Wednesday, May 1, the city of Imperial Beach will propose one of the most comprehensive single-use plastic reduction ordinances in California. We need your support to make sure it passes!

The ordinance, if passed, would prohibit the sale and use of single-use plastic carryout BAGS, STRAWS, STIRRERS, and CUTLERY. Additionally, it would require that ALL FOOD SERVICE CONTAINERS be biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable. It also expands their 2017 foam takeout container ban to include additional polystyrene products which often become marine debris, such as foam coolers, pool toys, and packing materials.

If you support local cities taking action to reduce our reliance on single-use plastics and protect our marine environment, please let Imperial Beach know that you support this ordinance!

Come to the city council meeting at 6pm to log your support, address the council, or cede your speaking time to another Surfrider volunteer. And if you can't make it, please email or call the city to log your support!
