TRV Stakeholder Solution

Written By Gabriela Torres

Wastewater consultant, Dexter Wilson, joined us at our March 14, Clean Border Water Now meeting where he presented and fielded questions regarding the Tijuana River Valley (TRV) Stakeholder Solution.

The TRV Stakeholder Solution is a conceptual plan spearheaded by Surfrider San Diego. The goal of the conceptual design is to address the sewage, chemicals, plastics (&tires), and sediment that are destroying the Tijuana River Valley and putting at risk the health and safety of the community.

The TRV Stakeholder Solution is the culmination of two years of feedback from meetings with stakeholders, residents, non-profit groups, and government agencies.

In summary, the TRV Stakeholder Solution would introduce infrastructure and upgrades along the main river channel that would capture trash and use a low flow channel to send sewage spills up to an estimated 25mgd to the international treatment plant before being redirected to the ocean outfall. The plan also incorporates a sediment basin that would hold stormwater and provide treatment for manageable rain events, while also addressing sediment problems.

The TRV Stakeholder Solution received overwhelming support at our March meeting. If you missed the meeting and would like to hear Dexter’s presentation, click here
