NOTICE: Marine Protected Areas Open January 1st, 2012

To help improve our ocean’s health and preserve coastal resources for future generations, the State has created a network of Marine Protected Area (MPAs), similar to “underwater parks,” up and down the California coast.   Join Surfrider Foundation as we explore newly established MPAs throughout southern California.  We’ll look at maps, videos, photos and discuss regulations.

The State will begin enforcing MPAs in January.  In order to educate communities about the new MPAs, we are holding meetings throughout the region.

The meeting for the San Diego region will be held on Wednesday, November 9th from 7-8pm at the Encinitas Community Center, located at 1140 Oakcrest Park.  Encinitas, CA  92024.

Over the past three years, Surfrider has been working with a diverse group of people to ensure MPAs are well designed and effectively implemented.  Our job is not done! Everyone who loves and uses the ocean needs to make sure these MPAs are successful in the long run—and that requires public education and monitoring the progress of MPAs.  Come to a meeting near you to learn more and find out how you can help.   For inquires go to: http://www.surfrider.org/California or email ssekich@surfrider.org.
