Preserving’ San Diego’s beaches means advocating for responsible coastal planning in the face of major threats to the coast like sea level rise and illegal development. This work is powered by our communications with planners, elected officials, regulators and other stakeholders. Our intention is to document and make transparent those communications.
It is important to note that coastal planning is complex and evolving, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution to many of the questions surrounding the future of our coasts. Surfrider San Diego considers the specific context surrounding every issue we take on, but all of our advocacy is grounded in the principles of the Coastal Act, the California State Constitution, and Surfrider's beach preservation and access policies (at bottom of page). Together, these guiding policies ensure that private property rights near San Diego’s coast are properly balanced with coastal access, and that the beach exists for the benefit of all members of the public.
Our beach preservation and beach access policy statements guide our coastal advocacy work.
